sage smudge sticks

Christmas can be an exhausting time for us all and so our self care is extremely important. Finding ways to lift our energy levels and keep us alert can be challenging. We spend more hours inside and in addition to the normal pressures of day to day life, there are the added pressures that this time of year brings too.

To keep spirits high and to generate some wild energy, this pine and sage smudge stick will help to invigorate your environment and promote cognitive function too.

Smudge sticks have been used for thousands of years for everything from warding off evil spirits to aiding meditation and relaxation.

We love the smell of sage, because it can help to stimulate the mind, reduce negative feelings and can help with balancing and uplifting feelings, but you can also add rosemary, lavender or cedar.

This Christmas we will be adding a big handful of pine too, because its another plant that is plentiful at this time of year and also stimulates the brain and promotes feelings of wellbeing.

instructions

  1. Grab a bunch of fresh sage and some sprigs of pine and tie them tightly together about 3/4 of the way up  with some twine or string.

  2. Wrap the twine towards the stem end and back up again, criss crossing until you have a tight bundle of herbs.

  3. Hang the bundle upside down for approx 2 weeks to dry out.

  4. Once the bundle is dry, light the end and allow it to burn for a few seconds before blowing it out. Then allow the smoke to smoulder into the air, filling the space with the beautiful uplifting wild aroma.
