web of wellbeing:
energy levels

This is part of a series of articles focusing on assessing and maintaining our wellbeing. All of these posts are linked to our Web of Wellbeing, with this one looking at our energy levels.

It would be fair to say that everyone has more energy some days than others. There may be days when we spring out of bed and jump in the shower, emerging energised and positive. But there are also days where we just want to roll over and go back to sleep, wondering how we will find the strength to put one foot in front of the other, let alone tackle the school run, work, exercise and all of the other tasks that our day holds.

It’s tougher in the winter, as dark mornings and evenings can make us feel flat and the colder weather makes stepping outside of our door just a little bit more effort. This is all perfectly normal and you are not alone in these feelings. The good thing is that there are some pretty simple strategies that you can start to practice that can help combat flagging energy levels!

You’ve guessed it! Lots of them involve getting outside or starting to adopt some nature led behaviours and activities that can offer the extra vavavoom that you need.

So check out our 5 Top Tips for energy boosting...

  1. establish a regular healthy routine. build a plan for your day and stick to it.

  2. include time outside every day. find a quiet spot to stop and practice breathing or mindfulness.

  3. keep a window open, or better still, take your work outside to soak up fresh air.

  4. herbs like sage are known to improve cognitive function and plants such as rosemary or rosemary oils can also energise us. put a small pot on your desk if you are working inside and inhale the beautiful scent.

  5. think about what you eat. apples, oats, strawberries and seeds can all provide healthy slow energy release. and don't forget to drink lots of water too!
